Community Health Centers of the Central Coast (CHC) is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in central California that provides comprehensive, integrated healthcare, dental and social services to the underserved patient population in the San Luis Obispo and northern Santa Barbara Counties of California. Initially formed in response to community concerns regarding the health and social needs of low-income agricultural and migrant farmworker populations, CHC is headquartered in beautiful Santa Maria. Celebrating its 45th year as a safety net health center, CHC now serves nearly 110,000 unique patients annually – ranking among the top 10 community health centers in California by visits.
CHC became a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in 1978 and is an FTCA-deemed facility and Joint Commission Accredited. In addition, CHC is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization. Governed by a committed Volunteer Community Board of Directors, most of whom are also patients, CHC is a clinic directed by its patients and the community. Most of the clinicians are direct employees working exclusively for CHC. With numerous specialty services, a handful of specialty clinicians provide care by contract.
