CHC's History
Community Health Centers of the Central Coast began operation in 1978, in a small building in Nipomo California, with 7 employees and a $100k budget. As of 2011, we have over 500 employees in 25 state-licensed clinics, and provide more than 310,000 medical and dental encounters, with an operational budget of $60 million dollars.
Our clinics are located in San Luis Obispo County and Northern Santa Barbara County on the Central Coast of California. The target population includes low income, uninsured community members with special emphasis on homeless people, migrant and seasonal farm workers and public housing residents.
Our professional staffing includes Pediatricians, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, and OB/GYN Physicians. In addition, we have Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Dentists, Chiropractors, Licensed Clinical Social Workers and Nutritionists. Our support staff for each medical provider usually includes one Receptionist and at least two Medical Assistants.
In 2004 we saw the beginning of the partnership with San Luis Obispo County where CHC assumed the operation of four of the SLO county Family Care Centers.
Other on-site services include Cardiology / Pulmonary, Neurology, Orthopedics, Podiatry, Infectious Disease, Pain Management, Telemedicine, Chiropractic and Women's Health.
CHC's services also include two on-site Pharmacies that fill more than 85,000 prescriptions per year. Our clinics offer extended hours including Saturdays. Our Urgent Care in Arroyo Grande is open seven days per week.
